First Swing Dancing!

Wow, is this the semester of local fun-event discoveries!  First it was square dancing, and now swing dancing!  And not just any swing dancing, there are West Coast AND Lindy Hop options!!!  I've been looking for such things for YEARS in my area.  Who knew this stuff existed in Springfield, Missouri?!

My friends Chelsea, Evan, and I went swing dancing (West Coast this time) for Chelsea's birthday last night.  (Jacob couldn't make it 'cuz he was being an awesome man and working.)  We went to Step By Step Dance Studio here in town, had an hour of swing instruction, then more people came and we all danced for a couple hours!  It was so much fun!  The instructors explained things really well and fostered an encouraging atmosphere.  They gave great tips and were patient (thank goodness) and willing to help clarify things when needed.  I'm pretty much a dancing newb, and I felt encouraged and more confident by the end of the night.  I highly recommend it!

Now, these dance events are a true, tangible expression of my character and personal development.  A few years ago, I wouldn't have been caught dead at any sort of dance studio for fear of completely humiliating myself.  However, now that I've embraced the fact that, hey, maybe I can dance but I've just never gotten the opportunity to learn how, I'm able to let loose a little bit.  Luckily, I am white, so even if I did turn out to be a horrible dancer it wouldn't be a huge shocker.  Ha!

Amazingly though, as I've been branching out and trying these different dance styles, I'm finding that I not only love doing it, but I'm not so bad at it either!  I'm by no means tooting my own horn there; I am quite pleasantly surprised at that!  Since it's so much fun and great exercise, too, I'm thinking that these dance styles may have to become my new "thing".  And you know what else?  I've got a Lindy Hop lesson next Sunday!  I can't get enough of this dancing stuff!  LIVING THE DREAM!

  1. Good luck with your next lesson! I keep meaning to go myself, there are classes at the dance school in my town, but I have no experience and no partner, which has been putting me off. The three of you all look wonderful xx

  2. How wonderfully fun! I'm really happy for you, as I know firsthand what it's like to live in an area that has little to nothing in the way of vintage related events, classes, shops, or other related going ons. I hope you tons of fun at the second (and all future) lessons.
