My best friend in the entire world, Maureen, just had a birthday in early June, and we decided to keep with one of our favorite traditions to celebrate: giant tea hats.
Although Maureen doesn't regularly wear vintage, she does share my affinity for large hats. So, we donned some pretty chapeaux and feminine outfits and headed out to a new tea room in town that we had never tried. (And we make it a point to visit pretty much every tea room in the area.)
Robin's Vintage Suitcase is a locally-owned gift shop that has recently opened up the tea room portion. The decor reminded me a lot of Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" movie: whimsical and fun with a delightful hint of crazy. And the food did not disappoint! We were served fruit and mint-infused water to begin, then we both ordered peach teas that were deliciously refreshing. Then, both of our meals (mine was a chicken salad sandwich and Maureen's was something neither one of us could pronounce) were scrumptious. Mine was a creative spin on an old favorite, and I enjoyed it immensely. We finished it off with some good strawberry soup!
All in all, I do like the tearoom. The decor is interesting, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous (for a tearoom, of course). The staff were also incredibly nice and welcoming! It was a great place to go and spend quality time with my amazing best friend!
That day I wore a dress I made a while ago but never fully debuted on this blog except for a passing photo from a shopping day. I wear it somewhat often, though, because it's just so comfortable! It's made of a beautifully soft and broken-in quilting cotton lined in a red satin-ish material. It's breezy and light, the length is worry-free, and I ended up totally loving the rick-rack! This fabric was given to me, and although I didn't particularly love it at first, it has definitely grown on me and now this dress is one of my creations that I am most proud of.
(I also made the other version of this pattern that I talked about here.)

Cute dress, it goes great with the hat! Your friend is a babe too.
ReplyDeleteHow cute are you two! What a lovely job you did in creating your dress! I think I'm all sewed out at the moment, but this is another story:) Love your hat and what a wonderful event to do with your friend:) I'd love any opportunity to wear a hat:)
ReplyDeleteLove the hat! That tea room looks awesome, there are so many cute places like that where I live but I never get around to visit them, I really should!
ReplyDeleteI love the ric-rac, it's such a nice pop of colour :)
You both look fantastic, lovely ladies! Oh my word, yes, she has the most gorgeous hair imaginable. It reminds me of something one might see on a Disney princess or Edwardian belle of the ball.
