The Wanderer

Flashback Summer: The Wander from Happy Yellow Dress - vintage

Although it's supposed to be fall, it's still quite hot here in Missouri.  I have yet to put away my summer clothes, and I was delighted to try out this new sleeveless dress I received from Happy Yellow Dress to a friend's baby shower in a park.  The weather turned out to be just perfect, and this breezy cotton dress was super comfortable.  Not to mention it accents my runner's/farmer's tan beautifully, haha!

This dress, "the Wanderer," has giant pockets and a gathered skirt.  My favorite part, however, is the fantastic cheongsam-style bodice!  The outfit reminds me of Nora and May Loh, two ladies that rock the vintage cheongsam look.

I am also glad to report that the cheongsam collar closes on the wearer's right side as is the traditional Chinese way.  (A closing on the left side was considered barbaric according to Chinese aesthetic tradition.)  Personally, it annoys me when it's done improperly!

The dress also has two very roomy pockets and a zipper down the back.  It also has a matching sash for belting the waist.  I got a size XS, and it fits quite well.  (My measurements are 33-24-35 for reference, and I just cinch the waist with the sash.)  The dress is fully lined in cotton, too, so it's both comfy and opaque.  When the weather is hot, I hugely appreciate the ability to avoid layering!

On a side note, this is the straight version of the haircut I debuted in my last post.  At first I was a bit nervous about how it would work with my vintage.  It's a great 1920s cut, but it's not so good with my 30s and 40s clothing.  Then I realized... I'm not a time capsule.  The style is working wonderfully for my life right now, and I love how it feels.  I don't need to perfectly recreate a 1940s starlet look; I just want to incorporate vintage into my life in a way that feels natural for me.  This does, so I'm happy with it!

    1. Thank you, Tanith! I'm glad to have support on adjusting my style. Sometimes as a blogger I'm nervous that if I look "too modern" my readership will take a hit. But I have to live life! I appreciate your comment!
