Big Hair and Velvet Sleeves - Friend Photo Shoot Part 2

Flashback Summer: Big Hair and Velvet Sleeves - 1910s World War 1 WWI photoshoot

This is a continuation of the friend photo shoot I began earlier this week, this time debuting the 1910s outfit I hinted about!

My friend Ash took the pictures, and I edited them!  She just did so well, I think.  Great eye.

I found this two piece outfit (dress and jacket) in a flea market.  I wonder what it has seen!  As I got ready, I listened to WWI music and imagined what it would have been like.  Having fathers, brothers, uncles going off to Europe to fight in World War 1, writing letters to them and knitting socks for the boys "over there".  Perhaps trying out some of those crazy Poiret pants, discovering newfound independence via bicycle, or... gasp... even a car!  Picketing for women's suffrage, ladies crashing into bars with hatchets promoting temperance.  Crazy times, those 1910s!

Also, you should listen to this as you look at the pictures for the full experience:

  1. My favorite picture is the one where you are holding your coat closed and standing sideways. It is very stylized and looks like a picture out of a magazine :)

  4. Where to start? The black and white was such an artistic choice to enhance the whole era shoot. Is the collar attached? So beautiful...your hair too...vintage perfect!

    1. Yeah, when I was editing I knew I had to do some black and white ones. The collar is attached to the under dress (the outfit is a sleeveless dress with a little jacket over it). And I teased my hair to DEATH to get it there, but when I brushed it out, it actually looked quite nice then, too!
