Flashback Summer: For My Heart Beats True...

In honor of Thursday being the 4th of July, America's Independence Day, I have a few patriotic-inspired outfit posts for you guys this week!

Flashback Summer: For My Heart Beats True...

First up is this outfit with a red hat I've braved wearing only a couple times since I got it. It's just... very bright and large.  I LOVE it, don't get me wrong, but it really calls for the right place to wear it.  I say that, but I'll wear it to class this fall now that I've worked up "giant vintage hat confidence".  (Any vintage ladies know what I mean?  Cough*bird hat*Solanah*cough sort of "giant vintage hat confidence"!)

I really felt quite glamorous in this outfit.  Curls and red lipstick and giant hats do that to me.

sweater: revamped by me (check out the tutorial!)
skirt: handmade
belt: resized by me (tutorial here)
gloves and hat: flea markets
shoes: Payless

  1. Love it! I just adore big hats (and hats in general). I think the key to pulling off a really big hat is making sure that the rest of your outfit is up to par. I love that you have great heels, vintage gloves and, of course, red lipstick on to make the hat look like it belongs with the outfit.

    1. Thanks Stephanie! I think you're totally right. If you've got the whole look put together, it works. That paired with walking a walk that says, "Yes, of course I am wearing a large hat. Anybody who's anybody wears large hats. Obviously." Then it REALLY works!

  2. I love it! You DO look so glamorous that I almost think I want a large red hat in my wardrobe. (Of course seeing as how I never wear hats, I must work on the "giant vintage hat confidence" you speak of first!)

    1. Yes, I didn't wear hats much until I started wearing vintage last summer. I remember the first hat I dared wear on my campus was a white pillbox. I worked up to bright colors and giant sizes from there. Then again, you could always try eating lunch with the older ladies' "Red Hat Club". Then you wouldn't stick out at all! :)

  4. That's a great hat! I really love hats and I like how confident they make me feel when wearing them now that I've worked up the nerve to wear them out more often. You're rocking this one! X
