Today I have a rare jump into 1950s style! I don't often wear anything post-1940s, but this dress was so perfect in fit, style, and comfort that I had to add it to my closet. I saw it at a clothing swap, and it aligned wonderfully with the goals I have for my wardrobe: navy blue, easy to wear, flattering neckline, great fit. It actually fit without any alterations, a rare treat indeed! I also like that, although it's 1950s, the V neckline has a bit of a "V for victory" motif to me. I can definitely picture wearing my patriotic brooches with it in future stylings.
This day I styled it with a black hat, purse, gloves and shoes. While I don't often mix navy and black (it's a bit unconventional), I realized that I don't own a full accessory set of navy items. With how often I wear navy, I'm working on remedying that. I'm just so picky about hats in particular, and I'm waiting for just the right navy blue hat to pop up! I'm also imagining it with a red accessory set for a fabulously patriotic vibe.
While this dress is a 1950s wiggle dress, I can also see layering it with 1940s jackets and sweaters for an earlier look this winter. While it wouldn't be a perfect, accurate 40s look, that's the wonderful benefit of being a modern woman wearing vintage clothing. We can pick and choose from all of the previous eras to make a look we like.
My hair is also now barely long enough to do a bit of a hairdo. While I'll probably cut it again soon, it was a nice change to actually have to pick a hairstyle for the day because I have options. I managed to get some very small rolls in the front!
Do you tend to stick to certain eras? What kind of garment or feature would convince you to don a piece from another era?

DeleteYou look lovely!
ReplyDeleteI dont' stick to any one period. Too much to like in too many of them!
Haha, and that's alright!
DeleteGreat find!! And it suits you so well! I swtich between different decades: 20s-50s. Lately I'm totally into 20s and I love 70s maxi dresses as well.
ReplyDeleteThat looks gorgeous on you. I dart around the eras, though usually go back to 60s 'cos it's kinder to apple body shapes.
