It can be a little tricky to figure out how to make these things work with a vintage outfit, though. Since these brands tend to cater to people with more modern styles, they're usually styled in ways that make it hard to imagine with midcentury trends. But never fear! These Native-designed pieces are each a fusion of modern and tradition, and they'll work fabulously with vintage pieces with a little styling creativity!
Below are six examples of ways to work in Native pieces with your vintage looks:
The 40s Nomad
Native motif purse - A.D. Designs // blue 40s dress, Lila platforms, bakelite bangles
Full Out Novelty
Eagle feather earrings - Kokum's Jewelry Box // purple shirtwaist dress, Proud Panache heel, black bag
Neutral Chic
Drelynn top - B. Yellowtail // black & taupe maxi skirt, floppy hat, black leather obi belt, Janie sandals
The Sassy Weekender
Ruby Red moccs - LL Designs // cigarette pants, Lily top, abstract headscarf
Girly Cute
Sparkle Pony earrings - Whurl Gurl // Dolly Dress, Astonish heel, DIY neon stud clutch
The Winter Office Classic
Native print single button cowl scarf - DA3 Designs // Super Spy dress, suede pumps, vintage bracelet, 1960s velvet hat, black cherry brooch
Which look would you wear? Do you have or have you seen any Native-made pieces you absolutely love? How do you work not-obviously-vintage pieces into your vintage looks?
Great ideas! I love the option of being able to wear these styles in a tasteful and respectful fashion whilst also supporting the communities where they originate.
ReplyDeleteOMG super cute outfit ideas!! And I love this idea - I always try to incorporate my Indonesian culture into vintage outfits but it's not easy so I usually wear Indonesian batik as scarves, headscarves or wear Indonesian made jewelries.
ReplyDeleteTrue story, it isn't always easy! I feel this way about some of my East African stuff, too. It's tricky sometimes to work them in in a way that feels organic and uncontrived and "works."
DeleteThese outfits are adorable! I love mixing in ethnic motifs (my big kick right now is Asian, but I also lean heavily towards middle eastern). (Thanks for showcasing some of the Royal Vintage shoes, too! <3)
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome that you're bringing attention to Native designers and their pieces. I love the pieces you've featured here, I'll have to check out those lines.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic styling tips and ideas, dear Emileigh. Your love of ethnic/tradition styles and ones inspired by such is down right inspiration and makes me want to branch out and include even more such pieces in my own vintage wardrobe (thank you!).

I think you put together some good outfits. I think a lot of the styles that work are the more everyday vintage clothes. I just wish I had more cash for these things!
