Appreciated Separates

Flashback Summer: Appreciated Separates- 1940s-50s vintage casual outfit, separates

Oftentimes in the vintage world, it seems that versatile separates are oftentimes ignored.  I mean, let's face it.  Most of us would rather buy a pretty, unique dress than a plain button-down.

However, we realize pretty quickly that woman cannot live in dresses alone!
There are so many circumstances (and moods!) in life that must be addressed by versatile and comfy separates.  For me, today was one of those days.  It was a rushed morning of getting to classes, and I needed something quick.

I grabbed jeans, because those go with anything, and a classic button down shirt in a neutral color that would also go with nearly any other color.  I grabbed a new necklace I was just gifted and the matching bangles and earrings, and BAM!  A put-together, comfy outfit perfect for walking across campus in.  I appreciate these separates!

So what do you think?  Do you utilize/have as many separates as you would like?  Are they a forgotten or well-loved part of your wardrobe?  What separates do you wear the most?

  1. What a cute outfit! I recently discovered my need for separates after making a skirt. Sure, I may have crafted several dresses. But I'm sorely lacking in the more vintage-y and classy shirt department. But that only means more sewing, so it's a good thing. :)

  2. So cute! I've been trying to wear and make more separates lately. They really are so much more versatile.

  3. Goodness, I love this colour palette! I wish I had a melon hued necklace of my own to partner with denim blue and follow your stylish lead. Really, really excellent outfit, honey!

  4. Love the jeans especially. I usually wear separates for work more often than for other occasions so a pencil skirt and blouse serves me well. I've been thinking that I really need a good pair of jeans though and since I'm in between sizes in Freddies of Pinewood, maybe a pair like these would be the answer! Because you're right - sometimes dress just isn't suitable.

  5. Super cute outfit!

And, yes, I think that those of us in the vintage crowd do tend to forget about separates, but sometimes that is not fault of ours/theirs. It's simply because there seem to be fewer separates available. But I love me some separates. I love a good blouse paired with a pencil skirt, full skirt or a pair of Kathrine Hepburn trousers or a good ol' pair of jeans.
