Desert Nomad Dress

Flashback Summer: 1940s Desert Nomad vintage Dress - novelty print

As the calendar days get crossed off, I keep expecting it to feel like November.  Normally, November is pretty chilly and rainy in Missouri, but this year we're experiencing quite the Indian summer.  It's still quite warm.  In fact, I was perspiring a bit even while wearing this light, short-sleeved dress.  Perspiring in November! Who ever heard of such a thing around here?!

However, it has afforded me the chance to wear my dresses without covering them in a coat quite yet.  This dress was the one I wore in a local fashion show, and I realized I never properly blogged it!  I simply had to share it because it is made of one of my top favorite vintage novelty prints.

Do you see the print?  At first glance, it looks like a red on red type of paisley with black and white flowers on it.  But wait!  Look again!  They aren't all flowers!  Some of them are little turbaned men on camels, and others are men on horses.  Isn't it just wonderful?!

I paired it with black leather accessories and a large black sun hat.  (I would love to add a black leather hat to my wardrobe to get really matchy-matchy sometime.  I'm pondering ideas for that!)  I also wore a couple of my Middle Eastern jewelry pieces: a necklace featuring a bead from the Arabian Peninsula and a touristy bracelet from Egypt.

I just love the subtle nod to an area of the world I love so much that is woven throughout this outfit.  It feels very "me-ish" and dramatic all at once!

You are having such nice weather, alas, we got snow here, and I have had to pull out the wool coat and gloves this week!

    1. SNOW?! I’m so jealous! I actually love cold winters, so lucky you! It’s dropped about 30-40 degrees since yesterday so it’s back to feeling really fall-ish!
