Season's Cleanings

As the seasons are changing, now is the time of year when I do some deep home and wardrobe cleaning and organizing.  I'm making a point to be very intentional and thorough about it this round because I feel more established in my adult routines than I was last autumn, so I'm actually excited to get to work!

I do my deep seasonal cleaning in spring and fall, so no matter which hemisphere you live in, now is the time to get at it!  Temperatures tend to be milder and, for many, the weather changes mean there needs to be a bit of a wardrobe shift.  As I go through my techniques for home and wardrobe cleaning and organizing, I'm going to post about each step with practical advice and tutorials to help you along in your own seasonal cleaning.

Here are the things I'll be covering:
- Dignity in homemaking
- 7 tips for deep cleaning, rearranging, and freshening up a room
- Safe, homemade cleaners
- The Index Card System: my mother's tried & true technique of regularly maintaining a home
- Dividing a wardrobe into seasons and laundering tips
- Mending and repairing clothing
- A 1930s hanging storage bags tutorial
- Storing seasonal clothing properly

I'll be sprinkling each post with interesting info from vintage sources, personal thoughts about caring for a home, and some handy-dandy printable guides you can use for quick reference.

Are any of you starting seasonal cleaning or wardrobe organizing?  Do you find it refreshing, a necessarily evil, or a bit of both?

  1. Oh, my gosh, cleaning and organizing is one of my ridiculous hobbies. It feels so good and I "purge" my wardrobe and launder everything at once multiple times per year. It's bordering on neurotic. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to these posts, haha.

  2. Being out of sorts this past spring I just didn't have the energy to spring clean. So now that I'm feeling up to snuff I've been going through everything. Yikes the things we accumulate. Looking forward to seeing your handy tips as I carry on with the purge!

  3. Sorting my clothes into seasons is essential, as I don't have room to have them all out at once! I love the thrill of rediscovering items xx

  5. Really looking forward to this. Our place really needs a good clean, but I am finding it hard to get into it.

  6. Like I mentioned on twitter, I'm super exicted to see this series! I have a confession, I'm terrible with cleaning and keeping things in order. My room needs a good clean, but I need a good kick in the rear.

(Also, what lip shade is that you're wearing? It looks so pretty!)

    1. I TOTALLY understand. I'm still learning how to balance cleaning with other "adulting" responsibilities in life!

And my lip shade is a REALLY bright red one from F21, one of those near the checkout line for impulse buys, haha!

  7. Wonderful post series. I always do a massive cleaning + organizing in the fall (often even more so than in the spring), in no small part because I know that our home will be a hub of activity all through the autumn and winter holiday season and I want our place looking spic and span in time for that. :)
