Birthday Errands

Flashback Summer: Birthday Errands - 1940s casual fashion

This past Saturday was my sister's birthday, and while I already had her main present, I also wanted to pick up some flowers for her and run some other errands on the way to see her.  The earlier part of this day was spent knitting, watching shows on Netflix and cleaning, so I wasn't dressed to the nines.  On weekdays I work at an office and wear a lot of heels and dresses, so weekends are full of t-shirts, comfy shoes, and headscarves for me!

My shoes are Chacos, the best, most durable sandal brand I've ever encountered. Sure, they aren't 40s, but I can guarantee that if they were around in the 40s… women would have been wearing them for work and recreation all the time, like I do!

On a birthday note...I got my sister's present from @guineverevonsneeden, an amazing lady I follow on Instagram. I sent her a picture of my sister and my dog, Dietrich, and an amazing custom portrait of the two was the result!  (My sister and Dietrich have a special bond!)  I posted a picture of me, my sister, and the portrait on Instagram.  I highly recommend Guinevere's work!

  1. Eeepp adorable! I'm loving casual outfits too lately. However I realise that I don't actually know what your day job is xxx

    1. Ha, I work at a publishing company as a project tracker. I help with the creation of products from concept to on the shelf. It's a very office-y type job!

  2. How cute are you! I love your running around look. The headscarf is perfect, it really makes a jeans and t-shirt look extra chic.

  3. Love how pulled together and chic you look all the time. I don't really modify my look weekdays/weekends. Perhaps it's more a student thing. Jeans are the only pants I like wearing, so summer is always dresses/blouses/skirts (I find tshirts too hot). We're just coming into spring weather here in Sydney; the last few weeks were rather cold, so it was a lot of jeans and tops. That was mainly because I didn't want to bother with stockings.

    1. I'm not allowed to wear jeans to work except on Fridays... otherwise I'd be wearing jeans all the time like you do!

  5. I actually tend to be dressier on the weekend as that's when I take most of my outfit photos plus there's date night.

    1. Do you do more than one outfit per blog photo shoot? Just curious about other people's blogging strategies!

  6. I love this! This outfit pretty much sums up my daily style. While I work in an office too, I don't always wear skirts - mainly because it's too darn cold with the AC blasting all day! I could wear a suit but I would feel waaaay over dressed. I'm most comfortable in a pair of jeans, a cute top like yours or a sweater. (It's starting to get cool enough to dig out all my sweaters!) It's so easy to add a splash of vintage for daily wear with some colorful bangles too. (I'm sporty orange and yellow today.) For the most part I tend to save my head to toe vintage for special events and fun outings. :)

    1. Yep, totally just got a space heater I have sitting under my desk for that reason! It gets chilly in skirts, and I haven't been wearing stockings regularly at all. It still feels a little fussy to me for everyday, and I don't want to ruin my vintage stockings with overuse. It's hard to find petite stockings to replace them with!

  7. I love those cute turbans, but can't ever seem to get them to stay on my head or tie right. :)

  8. Fabulous causal ensemble! I just love how your mirrored the colours in the scarf with those of your bangles. I'm a big fan of doing that as well.

Happiest birthday wishes to your sister!

  10. You are just too adorable! I have to tell you that the more I look at your blog, the more I think you resemble my grandmother, Jeanne, when she was in her early 20s back in the 1940s! It's fun for me to see what you wear next!
    Blessings!
